Warranty
Full replacement. No pro-rata reduction.
If a battery we sold you fails within its warranty period because of a defect, we replace it. We do not refund you a shrinking percentage of what you paid. Last revised 21 August 2026.
1. The periods
| Range | Warranty | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Novax® Value Plus | 12 months | Older vehicles, second cars and standby vehicles. |
| Novax Essential | 18 months | Daily commuters and family vehicles. |
| Novax Premium | 26 months | Drivers who want our longest cover, and AGM start-stop applications. |
Novax Premium's 26-month period is our longest standard warranty, and the longest we have found in its price band.
2. Who this warranty is given by, and to whom
This warranty is given by the Franchisor, Global Batteries Xpress (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/573894/07, once the battery has been registered on the Novax® Battery Registration Page, to the person named on the tax invoice. It is not transferable when the vehicle is sold, unless we agree in writing.
This store, Global Batteries SA trading as Global Batteries Xpress Alberton, is the seller. It handles your claim over the counter and it is where you bring the battery.
Your rights against this store are not affected by any of that. Sections 55, 56 and 61 of the Consumer Protection Act give you rights against the supplier who sold you the goods — that is this store — and they apply whoever gives the written warranty and whether or not anything was registered. You are never in a position where you have to chase a company in another town.
3. Registration — we do it, at fitment
Cover under this written warranty runs from registration on the Novax® Battery Registration Page. We register it for you, in the store, at the time our technician fits it. You do not have to do anything, fill anything in, or remember anything. Registration is what creates the warranty record, drives your replacement reminder, and lets any Global Batteries Xpress store settle a claim without arguing about what you bought.
If we did not register it, that is our failure and not yours. Bring the battery and your tax invoice. If the unit is not on the register and the invoice shows we sold and fitted it, we register it then and there and the warranty runs from the invoice date. We will not refuse a claim because our own paperwork was not done.
And registration cannot take away your statutory rights. Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act gives you a six-month implied warranty of quality from the date of delivery. That applies whether or not anything was registered, and nothing on this page limits it. Sections 55 and 61 apply the same way.
If you did not have it fitted by us — you bought over the counter and fitted it yourself, or had someone else fit it — register it within 7 days of the invoice date so the record exists. Bring the invoice in, or call the store on 011 869 2427, and we will register it on the counter system for you while you wait. We will help you do it if you ask. A battery we sold but never fitted is still covered by your statutory rights from the day you bought it, whatever the register says.
4. What is covered
A manufacturing or material defect in the battery that causes it to fail to hold or deliver charge within its warranty period, established by a conductance and load test at a Global Batteries Xpress store.
If the test confirms the defect, we replace the battery with an equivalent new unit. There is no charge for the replacement, for the test or for fitting it.
5. What is not covered
These are exclusions of damage caused by the listed event. They do not void your warranty generally — if a battery fails from a defect and something on this list also happened, the question is what actually caused the failure.
- Damage caused by physical impact, dropping the battery, or a cracked or punctured case.
- Damage caused by fitting the wrong size or chemistry for the vehicle, where the battery was not fitted by us.
- Damage caused by a charging system that over-charges or under-charges — an alternator, regulator or wiring fault. We check this free before every sale precisely so this does not happen to you.
- Damage caused by a parasitic drain — an accessory, alarm, tracker or wiring fault that discharges the battery repeatedly and deeply.
- Damage caused by leaving the battery in a discharged state for an extended period, or by repeated deep discharge.
- Damage caused by reverse polarity connection, jump-starting incorrectly, or attempting to charge a frozen battery.
- Damage caused by using the battery in an application it was not sold for — deep-cycle, traction, standby power or inverter duty, in the case of a starter battery.
- Damage caused by fire, flood, accident, theft, or anything the vehicle's insurer would ordinarily deal with.
What is not on that list, deliberately: a battery that simply stops holding charge inside its warranty period. That is the failure this warranty exists to cover, and "it wore out" is not a defence we will run. A starter battery that will not do its job within 26 months has not lasted a reasonable time, and section 55(2)(c) of the Consumer Protection Act says so independently of anything we write here.
5.1 Establishing that we sold it
We need to be able to identify the battery as one we supplied. Your tax invoice does that. If the identification, date coding or serial marking has been removed or altered and you have no invoice or other record, we may not be able to establish the claim — not as a penalty, but because there is nothing to match it against. Tell us and we will look for the sale on our own records first.
6. Commercial and e-hailing use
Where the vehicle is used commercially — metered taxi, e-hailing, courier, delivery, driving school or any duty cycle with many starts per day — the warranty period is 6 months across every range.
That is a disclosed reduction, not a hidden exclusion, and it applies only if it was pointed out to you at the time of sale. If the counter did not tell you, the full period for your range applies. If you tell us the vehicle is used commercially, we will tell you the period before you pay, and it will be noted on your invoice.
7. What a replacement carries
A replacement battery carries the balance of the original warranty period, calculated from the date of the original tax invoice. It does not start a fresh period. Without that rule the warranty would roll forward indefinitely, and we would have to price every battery for that.
That is our contractual rule, and it does not touch the statute. Where a battery is replaced as a remedy under section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, the replacement carries its own six-month implied warranty of quality from the date it is supplied, running independently of the balance described above. You get whichever of the two is longer.
8. How to claim
- Bring the battery and your tax invoice to the store. If the vehicle will not start, call us — 011 869 2427 — and we will tell you the fastest way to get it here.
- We test the battery and the vehicle's charging system, free, and print the result.
- If the test confirms a covered defect, we replace it on the spot where we hold stock, and within our published lead time where we do not.
- If the test does not confirm a defect, we show you the printed result and explain what we found. You keep the printout either way.
If you disagree with our finding, say so and we will escalate it to the franchisor's technical team for a second assessment. You are also entitled to take it further — see clause 10.
9. Your Consumer Protection Act rights are untouched
This warranty is given in addition to your rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. It does not replace them, reduce them or limit them.
In particular, section 56 gives you an implied warranty of quality for six months from delivery, under which you may require a repair, a replacement or a refund — and the choice of remedy is yours, not ours. Section 55 entitles you to goods that are of good quality, in good working order and free of defects. Section 61 deals with harm caused by unsafe or defective goods.
Where this warranty gives you more than the Act does — a period longer than six months, full replacement rather than a pro-rata credit — you get the benefit of it. Where the Act gives you more, the Act wins.
10. If we cannot agree
Write to alberton@gbxpress.co.za and ask for the matter to be escalated. If it is still not resolved, you may refer it to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa — the industry ombud accredited under section 82 of the Consumer Protection Act for motor-industry disputes — or to the National Consumer Commission, or to a consumer court. Nothing in this warranty requires you to arbitrate a consumer complaint or to give up any forum the law gives you.
11. Version and changes
This warranty applies to batteries sold on or after 21 August 2026. A battery sold earlier is governed by the terms in force when it was sold, or by these terms if these are more favourable to you.
