This store is an outlet in the Global Batteries Xpress network. The franchisor is Global Batteries Xpress (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2026/573894/07. Each store in the network is a separately owned business, contracts with you in its own name, and sets its own selling prices independently.
2. Prices
Prices on this website are this store's own counter prices. They include VAT and the scrap exchange for your old battery, and they are current at the date stated on the price table. Fitment and testing are free.
Prices may change without notice. If a price on this website is wrong — a typing error, a stale figure — we will tell you before we take your money and you are free to walk away. We will not hold you to an obvious mistake and we will not use an obvious mistake against you either.
Published capacity (Ah) and cold-cranking (CCA) figures are given only where the figure is confirmed. Where it is not, the table says so, and we will read the correct rating off the unit rather than publish a guess.
3. Ordering, stock and fitment
An order placed on this website is a request to reserve a battery. A sale is concluded when we confirm stock and price to you, or when you pay, whichever happens first. If the size or chemistry you selected is wrong for your vehicle we will tell you before fitting anything — we would rather lose the sale than fit the wrong battery.
Fitment is done by a trained technician to the vehicle manufacturer's torque specification and signed off on a job card. Where your vehicle requires the battery to be registered to the charging system, that is done as part of the fitment.
4. Your seven-day cooling-off right on anything ordered through this site
Chapter VII of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act applies to transactions concluded electronically. If you order a battery through this website, section 44 gives you the right to cancel within seven days after you receive it, for any reason or none. You do not have to give a reason and you pay no penalty. The only charge that may be levied against you is the direct cost of returning the battery to us. We refund you within 30 days of the cancellation.
Three things we would rather say plainly than bury:
- We do not deduct anything for use from a section 44 refund. The Act does not allow it, and we are not going to write a clause that says otherwise.
- A battery that has been fitted and used cannot be resold as new — which is our problem, not yours. But if you think you may want to cancel, tell us before we fit it and we will hold it unfitted for you instead.
- If you buy over the counter rather than through this website, the transaction is not an electronic one and the section 44 right does not arise. What you keep instead is the contractual return in clause 5, the six-month implied warranty in section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, and the written warranty on the warranty page — all of which are unaffected.
5. Returns and refunds — our own policy, on top of the law
This clause is a contractual concession we offer. It is separate from, and additional to, the statutory rights in clause 4 and clause 7, and it does not replace either of them.
An unfitted battery in its original condition may be returned within 7 days with the tax invoice for a refund or exchange, however you bought it. Where you exercise this contractual return rather than a statutory right, we may charge a reasonable handling amount if the packaging has been destroyed — as section 20(6) of the Consumer Protection Act permits for returns under section 20. We will tell you the amount before we process anything, and you are free to decline and use your statutory rights instead.
A fitted battery is dealt with under the warranty, or under section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act if it is defective.
Nothing in these terms limits your rights under sections 55, 56 and 61 of the Consumer Protection Act, or under section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act. If any clause here conflicts with those provisions, those provisions prevail and the clause is to be read as if it were not there.
6. Payment
We accept payment in store by card, cash or electronic transfer. Where online card payment is available on this website it is processed by a third-party payment provider; we do not receive or store your card details. Ownership of the battery passes to you on full payment, and risk passes on delivery or fitment.
7. Warranty
Every new battery carries a written warranty. The periods, what is covered, what is not, and how to claim are set out in full on the warranty page, which forms part of these terms.
8. Your old battery
Scrap exchange is included in the counter price. We take your old battery, store it in a bunded, ventilated and lockable area, record it on a movement register and release it only to a licensed recycler. A lead-acid battery is hazardous waste and must not go into a domestic bin.
9. Liability
We are liable for damage we cause. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — the trip you missed, the earnings you lost — arising from a battery failure. Nothing in this clause limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including under section 61 of the Consumer Protection Act, or liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
10. Complaints and disputes
Tell the store first: 011 869 2427 or alberton@gbxpress.co.za. Most things are fixed at the counter the same day.
If we do not resolve it, you may refer the matter to the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa — the industry ombud accredited under section 82 of the Consumer Protection Act for motor-industry disputes — or to the National Consumer Commission, or to a consumer court. You do not have to come to us first, although it is usually faster. These terms are governed by South African law, and nothing in them requires you to arbitrate a consumer complaint or gives up any forum the law gives you.
